Holly River State Park

So far this is our most favorite campground in West Virginia. We have always been able to obtain a site nestled in the tall trees where the heat of the day can be avoided. Down in Hacker Valley the temperatures at night can run very cool being on average 10-20F degrees cooler than in Fairmont. The stream that runs along the campground contains crawdads and trout. An old grist mill is approximately 10 miles from the campground and is good for fishing with the kids.

This densely forested park provides a sense of peaceful remoteness, even though it is a hub of recreational activities. Laurel Fork, a fine trout stream and tributary of the Holly River, cascades through the park, offering excellent fishing opportunities for the avid angler.

Vacation cabins, an 88-unit campground with electric hookups and a quaint restaurant serve the large number of visitors who want to get away from it all at this park. Hiking trails through deep woodlands to secluded waterfalls and a brisk climb to scenic Potato Knob are among this park's special natural attractions. A wide range of recreational facilities and a summer nature/recreation program offer a perfect mix of entertainment to park guests.

Holly River State Park is located on WV 20, 32 miles south of Buckhannon and 20 miles north of Webster Springs. Interstate 79 running north/south through central West Virginia offers access to WV 20 at several points. Please consult a west Virginia Highway map for further information.
